An average of 873 bikers entered downtown in the hour between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on the northbound streets between 3rd and 22nd Streets during the first two weeks of October 2012. In 2010, the 8-9 a.m. average was 790 bicycle commuters.
South Phillyans? Anyway, the Center City District says in a new report that bike commuting from South Philly has increased 10.5 percent in just two years. A lot of the increase had to do with the installation of the 13th Street bike lane.
They also attribute the increase to the boom in population in South Philly, high gas prices and the youthful exuberance of the neighborhood, in so many words.
