Le Virtu is planning a new location, concept

Joe Cicala, chef at Le Virtu, is planning an enoteca concept focusing on southern Italian wines by the glass and local craft beers, Foobooz reports. It’s still early, and owners Francis Cratil Cretarola and Catherine Lee haven’t selected a location, but the website did provide a tantalizing tidbit.

At least a couple of South Philadelphia locations have been eliminated as the search continues.

Does that mean they want a South Philly location? Or that they’ve given up for another, busier hood?

Unlike Le Virtu, which took a year to get open, the team is looking for a more finished space that have plenty of foot traffic and neighborhood backing. Which seems like a slam dunk to us, but we’re not NIMBYs.

Also unlike the Abruzzese Le Virtu (lower calf of the boot), food will be small plates from Campania, (front of the ankle) which includes Salerno and Napoli and the Amalfi Coast. Check Cicala’s Twitter feed for pictures of the kind of stuff he’s been sampling on his tasting tour.
