Do you prefer crepes to cheesesteaks? Would you opt for goat cheese over cheez wiz? If you answered yes to either question, then you’re in luck (and have excellent taste).
|Crepes are on their way|
An opening date has not yet been set, but Liza Iezzi is set to open “Global Crepes and Local Shakes” in the currently vacant storefront at 1309 S. 9th Street, about half a block south of Pat’s. Her menu will include crepes, waffles, salads, coffee, and even some Japanese items. She wants to provide customers a healthy option in the neighborhood known for beef-and-cheese cuisine. PSCA zoning committee approved her submission in August, but an opening date has not yet been set. Contractors began interior work last month and she hopes to hear from L&I regarding inspections later this winter.
Liza chose the location because her grandfather owned a shop at 11th & Christian and she wanted to get back into South Philly and “make good food for people.”
If you’re eager for a sneak peek, get over to the city’s Christmas Village at Love Park where Liza offers “delicious, freshly-made sweet and savory crepes, and baked waffles topped with Nutella, whipped cream, bananas, and caramel.” More information about the Christmas Village can be found here.
And to get the drool really going, here’s a list of potential menus items that the Passyunk Square Civic posted on its Facebook page:
-Picadillo (cuban beef)
-A vegetarian crepe with spinach & caramelized onions (with or without cheese)
-Mascarpone & strawberry preserves
-White chocolate & raspberry
-Brie & sweet fig
-Dark chocolate & orange zest
-Bananas, chocolate, & coconut
-Daily specials the whole month long including Nutella & ‘Bananutella’ crepes!
