Bell’s Bikes testing out regular hours

You ever walk by Bell’s Bikes at 1320 E Passyunk Ave. and wonder why they never seemed open? Well, they kind of weren’t. To this point it was open by appointment only, but owner Steve Palladinetti said he’s starting to test out regular walk-in hours.

They’re open now, promise

The shop is well-known among gear heads here and around the country through its considerable business online. But Palladinetti, who used to own a couple shops in the city before transitioning to online only, said he’s trying to get back into the retail game. The hours are Tuesday and Thursday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday and Friday 10 to 7 p.m. and Saturday 10 to 3 p.m. Maybe he’ll get some more passersby with the new Women’s Fitness Solutions a couple doors down.

Palladinetti’s still trying to manage an active parts shipping business while moving toward creating a traditional retail space, so the shop is still in transition. But he’s managed to carve out a nice shop packed to the rafters with merchandise.

And here’s another plus. “Since we do most of our business online, our prices are as good as you can get anywhere,” he said.

For now, that imposing garage door will stay but if you stop by, get your bike tuned up and ask him nice, maybe he’ll consider providing some needed love to that facade. Maybe a clear garage door? Regardless, this is a great development for a bike-loving and bike-shop starved neighborhood. Sometimes you just wanna browse, ya know?

During the transfer of posts from the old site, some of the comments didn’t make it over. One commenter asked whether Bell’s does labor there. And the answer is yes, they do. Tune-ups, installs, builds, all kinds of stuff.
