If you’re among the half of Philadelphia who’s already gotten sick this winter, this might come too late. But for the rest of you, it’s probably going to happen, so at least now you have another good option.
Late last year, South Philly got its very own walk-in urgent-care center when a new Doctors Express location opened at 1444 W. Passyunk Ave. And just what is “urgent care,” exactly? From the Doctors Express website:
Doctors Express treats everything from cuts and bruises to fractures and colds and everything in between. We have on-site lab tests, x-rays and prescriptions with no appointments needed. We’re a state-of-the-art urgent care center with professional medical staff on-site every day. … We accept most insurance plans.
The website states that the average wait time for the month of January was only 20 minutes. Really? You can’t get a cheesesteak from Pat’s in 20 minutes, at least on weekends.
Their hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 8 to 8 on weekdays. We stopped by on a Tuesday night and found a handful of people waiting in their warm and welcoming waiting room. Three staff members eagerly greeted us, a very pleasant change from the reception one receives at your average emergency room.
A recent article about Doctors Express shows that the company was founded in Baltimore seven years ago and this is their first location in Philadelphia. With the flu raging this winter, we’re sure that Doctors Express will be very busy.
