The Inky’s Inga Saffron says the Pennsport Cvic Association just learned last week that a New York company had renewed a permit to demolish the historic Engine 46 firehouse at Reed and Water streets.
Maybe they should have been reading us, because we had that news back in March, yo! We had no luck getting any info about plans from the owner, Cedar-Riverview, but neither did Saffron. If you want to save that firehouse, start by telling Councilman Mark Squilla by going here. Read Saffron’s full story here.
Also, the Philadelphia Business Journal reports that the 76ers have begun soliciting an architect to design a 55,000 square-foot practice facility at the Navy Yard. Add that to the announcement that Marc Vetri will open a restaurant there, plus the new hotel opening later this year, and you’ve got some serious action down south.
And tomorrow night, Axis Philly and NBC10 are sponsoring a forum on what to do with the Bok High building at 8th and Mifflin, which is closing this week for good. To provide your input, go to New Hope Temple Baptist Church, 711 S. 12th St., Thursday night at 6 p.m.
