Rent’s still pretty cheap in South Philly, says one website. Are they right?

The Tumblr blog Kwelia has a nifty interactive graphic that lists rental prices per square foot around the city, and for an out-of-town site, they definitely got the neighborhoods figured out.

But they say that Germantown, for instance, is more expensive than Passyunk Square by a tiny bit and that Newbold is pricier than East Passyunk Crossing. That doesn’t sound right.

Yeah, looks a little low to me. We rented a 900 sq ft house in East Passyunk for the last three years (before buying) and when I just did the math it was about $1.38/sq ft. It was very close to Passyunk Ave, though, so probably was a little higher than the neighborhood as a whole might average, but I didn’t feel like we were overpaying; it seemed like a normal rent for the house we had, and I assume is actually more expensive now that we’ve moved out (in April) and they had a chance to increase rent before new tenants moved in.
