In what is supposed to be an off year for the Olympics, the South Philly Review is bringing its own version to Pennsport this week. On Thursday, the paper is hosting the fifth annual Pizza Olympics from 6 to 9 p.m. at Penns Landing Caterers at 1301 S. Columbus Blvd.
The event is promoted as “the biggest pizza party South Philly has ever seen,” and with at least 15 parlors competing it might be. Tickets are $15, which includes entry and all the pizza you can eat from each vendor. There will also be discounted beer and drink specials as well as live music, raffles and giveaways. Attendees must be 18 to enter and 21 to drink – standing room only.
The parlors that have committed to attend include SliCe, Santucci’s, Chickie’s and Pete’s, Bianca Pizza and Trattoria, and J&J pizza. Mummers (this is Pennsport after all) have performed here in the past so you can strut off some of those added calories by the end of the night.
This event has grown each year so you should buy tickets ahead of time as there is usually a long line at the door and entry is not guaranteed without prior ticket purchase.
Tickets are on sale at the South Philly Review office at 12th and Porter streets. Office hours are 9 AM-5 PM leading up to the event.
