Caroyln Verdi Boutique, an event-planning and accessory business that shares space with a wedding-dress shop at 918 Pine St., is decamping for 1746 E. Passyunk Ave., with an anticipated grand opening in the fall.
The space previously was Visitario, the casual component of the neighboring evening wear store Mia, but the landlord closed that half and sealed up the wall, making way for another tenant.
Verdi, the namesake shop owner, said foot traffic on Pine just wasn’t enough to meet her needs. “I can’t wait to be around people!” she exclaimed. Her new location will feature costume jewelry and other handmade accessories, with a focus on promoting local designers. She also plans to hold trunk shows and “girls nights out” in the ample back yard.
Verdi has been planning weddings and other events for 21 years, and first opened a boutique near 8th and Catharine about 12 years ago. She joined forces about four years ago at Pine Street with The Sample Rack, a perpetual wedding-dress sample sale that previously had been located on South Street near 7th above the La Fourno. She plans to continue offering her calligraphy services for invitations as well – “a lost art,” she said.
Passyunk has been without a wedding presence since the closing of La Piu Bella a few years ago and a couple blocks north. That shop will soon give way to Vanilya bakery, which specializes in wedding cakes, and we’re hearing buzz that a make-up artist with an eye on brides is setting up shop somewhere on the avenue as well.
It’s quite the wedding boom.
