The 8th annual East Passyunk car show comes to the avenue on Sunday and it’s one of South Philly’s biggest events of the year. Five stages, six outdoor bars, circus acts and a craft show at the fountain will augment the five blocks of cars and food vendors that make this festival stand out from all the others around town.
And we’ll be there offering a chance to win a $25 gift certificate to the POPE. Everyone likes free beer, right?
Hawthorne Park at 12th and Catharine is hosting free movie nights this summer, starting with tonight’s offering of “Lady & the Tramp.” Hewing to the animal theme, there will also be a visit by the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society and a “pet parade.” Check here for future movies. Keep an eye out for September’s “Karate Kid” paired with a karate demonstration. 7:30 p.m. Free
The American Swedish Historical Museum is throwing its third annual SmorgasBeer’d party. Expect tasty Swedish treats like meatballs, cheeses and sausage paired with local lagers, ales and stouts plus the Swedish beer Dugges.
There will also be tours of the museum with special attention paid to the alcohol implements on display. With DJ Lou Diamond (what, no Phillips?). 1900 Pattison Ave., at the edge of FDR Park. 5 to 8 p.m. $25 in advance includes food and drink (reserve tickets here). $30 at the door, which is still a pretty good deal.
Eagles training camp will be in South Philly this year and for the first time, you’ll be able to catch practices at the Linc for free. Public workouts start at 12:30. Vendors will be open for food but not for alcohol. Check here for free tickets.
