Froyo spot Zoey’s Yogurt Bar replacing short-lived Underdogs – with a little Tom Jones inspiration?

Well, that didn’t take long.

A frozen yogurt place called Zoey’s Yogurt Bar has already begun building out the space next to Geno’s at 1207 S. 9th St., where Underdogs was until it departed too quickly last month.

Zoey’s already has one location in Royersford and another in the works in Plymouth Meeting. Business is going so well, says co-founder and COO Tom Clatterbuck, that they’re going to start franchising in January.

They use nonfat frozen yogurt  and supply dozens of rotating topping flavors, including intriguing ones like carob chips, frosted animal crackers and mochi, a Japanese rice cake.

As sad as we were to see Underdogs go, we’re glad that a new tenant has already started working. Hopefully, the new guys have better luck than the old ones. You know how tourists love to flock to this area for its low-fat options.

Go to their website for more information and for their catchy jingle, which is set to the tune of “Sugar Sugar” (awww honey, honey…).

We had no idea that song was originally done in a 1969 Archie cartoon:

What the new shop says is: “Zo-ey’s …. awww…. frozen yogurt…”

Incidentally, Tom Jones also did a version of that song in 1970:

finally a dessert place to complement pats and genos. I always wondered why folks were trying to compete directly with those crowds with a sandwhich, then a hotdog joint.
