Metro men’s clothing is moving out of the shop where they’ve been since 2010 and up the block to much bigger digs in the space that is now Reliable Floor Covering and 1600 Below Vintage.
Metro sent out an email that until they move around Sept. 15, all their summer merchandise is 50 percent off. As always, sip on a free beer or cocktail while you shop.
Meanwhile, Reliable, which has been at Tasker and Passyunk for 38 years, and 1600 Below are both moving to the flooring company’s original location at 613 Bainbridge St.
Owner Maria Furey said her 87-year-old father wants to semi-retire, which prompted the move to consolidate both stores. This way, she said, he can pop in when he wants to. Furey also said that 1600 Below, which is her project, will start offering more higher-end furniture and the same affordable vintage clothing selection in the new location.
It is keeping the same name since it has developed a following with vintage customers, she said. Besides, is there anything more quirky-South Philly than a combo flooring/vintage clothing store? That’s called charm, folks.
Another interesting tidbit, the blog GPhilly says Metro was recently awarded a $5,000 grant from the Independence Business Alliance to enhance the store’s online presence. Way to go, Tom.
