Maybe it’s because nothing goes better together than pizza and beer.
The Springfield Beer distributor, which has held down its hanger-like location at the foot of the South Street Bridge for decades, will be moving to 22nd Street and Washington Avenue, right next to recent addition Kermit’s Bake Shoppe.
Naked Philly says that the distributor is being displaced by the immense impending development by Children’s Hospital, which is planning a 15- to 20-year effort to build another campus on this side of the Schuylkill (huge pdf).
Springfield had been planning to move to Oregon Avenue but apparently decided 22nd and Washington would be a better move. That’s certainly closer to its traditional customer base.
According to a poster on Philadelphia Speaks: “No date yet, but the guy basically tells me they’re there until CHOP is out front with bulldozers.” That could be a while.
UPDATE: According to commenter Ryan below, fliers were posted at the distributor this weekend saying they will be moving next weekend, opening in the new location on Monday, Sept. 30.
