15 of city’s best bars call South Philly home, Philly mag says

Philadelphia magazine said in its latest issue that 15 of the city’s 50 best bars make their homes on or below South Street.

In the Top 10 were American Sardine Bar (4), Brauhaus Schmitz (8) and Devil’s Den (9).

Buzzy spots like South Philadelphia Tap Room and Stateside made the list (14 and 37), but also places that are less likely to pop up on food blogs all over town, including Grace Tavern (28) and Fountain Porter (39).

The rest of the South Philly bars on the list are Southwark (11), Sidecar (18), The Industry (21), Royal Tavern (22), the Cantina (27), POPE (31), Resurrection Ale House (32) and Bob and Barbara’s (34).

So, what do you think of the list? Did they leave anyone off?

Isn’t South St. considered center city now?

It’s always been the traditional border of Center City and South Philly, so we report on things in Bella Vista, Queen Village, G-ho, etc. because of that definition. Designating neighborhoods is always a bit controversial, though.
