A lease has been signed to bring a branch of the Gold Standard Cafe to 20th and Fitzwater sometime in mid-spring, says the Philly Real Estate Blog.
The building previously housed the Beauty Shop Cafe, which closed after a sale to the crew from Walnut Street’s Farmer’s Cabinet, which has had its share of troubles lately. They apparently couldn’t get it together.
Just as well. The Gold Standard Cafe is a popular casual eatery that was “born on the Penn campus and reincarnated on Baltimore Avenue.” Says the blog:
Very little in the way of renovation or upgrades will be required for the Gold Standard to get up and running: the cafe counter remains in place. As the space is not equipped with a kitchen, however, we can likely expect a slightly less extensive menu than the one The Gold Standard serves up at 4800 Baltimore Avenue. Think paninis in place of burgers, for instance.
