What's Happening in:  East Passyunk Crossing :  Passyunk Square

El Zarape’s last day in current location is next week

The final day for El Zarape in its current prime location at 12th, Morris and Passyunk will be on March 14, according to a sign announcing the move.

El Zarape

The Mexican BYOB will be relocating to an old cellphone store at  1304 S. 9th St., though manager Armando Aparicio said they don’t plan to be open for another three months.

It’s too bad they didn’t get someone to proofread this sign, which had the wrong address and a different spelling of “Zarape.”

Despite, the sign, they are still open until the end of next week.

D’oh! And despite the sign, they are still open until the end of next week.

Aparicio said high rent prompted the move. Not surprising since that intersection, which will soon see $300,000 in pedestrian improvements by the city, has become a nexus of the neighborhood, second only to the fountain. We’ve already heard rumors that the space has been rented, so we’ll keep you posted.

Maybe their main sign has been mispelled all this time??

“Sarape” is actually a spanish word, “Zarape” not so much.

Care to sniff around for the update on Karina’s now going to Ritner instead of the fountain?
    Unless I missed it…

The Ritner part is a fact, it’s the fountain space i’m wondering about.

I really hope an Italian restaurant moves into this space. There’s definitely a shortage of those in the neighborhood…

My vote is for a reasonably-priced Greek taverna like they have all over Montreal.
