Dog bakery/toy shop called Amelie’s Bark Shop coming to fountain building
An online natural dog-treat bakery is going the brick-and-mortar route across the street from the fountain.
Amelie’s Bark Shop is shooting to open this summer at 1544 E. Passyunk Ave. Owner Jackie Starker says she’ll offer natural baked in-house dog treats, as well as eco-friendly pet products from handmade crafters.
Starker, whose online business used to be called Pupcakes, said she outgrew her kitchen. The new business is named after her own dog, Amelie.
The building, which is next door to the corner building that had the holiday card to the neighborhood, was most recently used as a private home, but at one point it seemed like it might have been an unlicensed Indian catering kitchen. There was no sign, just a menu posted in the window. Before that, we hear it was a flower shop.
And now a doggie bakery. Quite the evolution, no?

Interesting…I mean, Doggie Style is just up the street, and has bakery and toys aplenty…
Doggie Style does NOT have a bakery, and I’m pretty certain they don’t even make their own dog treats off-site. They’re just buying them from a whole supplier like any other pet store.
Absolutely right! I am very excited for my pup to have an all natural alternative to commercially packacked foods. The concept sounds great with more opportunities for hand-made crafters. Best of luck!

Doggie Style is a joke, It’s the same owner of the so called rescue Operation Ava. The rescue is all about profit. The owner of Doggie Style Howard Nelson has euthanized many pets for adoption. Between 2010-2013 341 dogs/cats have been euthanized for no reason besides not finding a home quick enough. 2013 same reason 117 euthanized. I have lots of proof to follow my facts. Papers signed off by Howard Nelson to euthanize these animals. The products at Doggie Style are horrible, look at the expiration on the food items, they sell expired food by either rubbing off the expiration or covering it with a sticker. The company is shady and owes hundreds of thousands to vendors. Do your research next to you shop at Doggie Style or Operation Ava. Google “Howard Nelson – Doggie Style – Operation Ava”
Doggie Style buys the bakery items expired or items that can’t sell from sitting around from “Pawsitively Gourmet” or “Tail Bangers” Both bakery’s are now local and refuse to buy anything without a 90% markup.
There are tons of great cafes and italian restaurants along the avenue. Why not more than one pet place to provide product variety and alternative choices??
Because a pet place should be off somewhere in some strip mall. Not on Passyunk Avenue…

so excited for Jackie and this is a great presence for the avenue! She helped coordinate alot of events for designphiladelphia and I have a feeling along with the help of the rest of the retailers on this happenin’ ave, we can ramp up the shopping experience down here!

Yeah, Provie, I feel ya. I’m sure you’d prefer a tracksuit and flip-flop store, but that’s not where the market is anymore.
