SoPhilly Spollight: Original Details edition

For this week’s SoPhilly Spotlight, we bring you a cute, updated house that managed to hold onto some of the old charms, like this antique lighted newel post:

Not exactly our style, but neat. huh?

1029 fernon

This 3-bed, 1.5 bath house at 1029 Fernon St. (between Tasker and Morris) has original molding, an ornate built-in shelving unit in the dining room, restored hardwood floors and even a finished basement. It’s 1,064 square feet and is going for $265,000.

According to the listing by Coldwell Banker Preferred:

Nestled on a quiet tree-lined block between Tasker and Morris Streets and steps from the Square’s heart, the Singing Fountain, hides 1029 Fernon Street. Tastefully decorated with contemporary colors and hues, this handsome three bedroom home exudes modern sophistication while honoring the charm and original details that make it so special.

See that shelving?

And don't you just love it when the flooring has that in-laid ring? (whatever that is called)

You’ll enter into a large living room/dining room boasting original hardwood floors with cherry inlay, a fantastic (working!) Art Deco banister lamp, delicately detailed archways and a built-in corner cabinet with scalloped detail.

The finished basement.

The kitchen is clean and bright with stainless appliances and the yard is private and great for entertaining. Upstairs you’ll find three bedrooms and a ceramic tile bath. The basement is finished with a half bath, laundry and plenty of storage.

For being as old as those fixtures look, it certainly seems well-kept.

Doesn’t look like there’s central air, the bane of nearly every “original detail” kind of house. What do you think? Worth $265k?

Ugh, Location. A half block from the Fountain AND on a quiet side street. Yes.
