Seven new homes moving forward at vacant lot at 21st and Federal

A cluster of new homes is coming to a vacant lot in a booming section of Point Breeze, if city records can tell the future.

The owner of a 5,800 square foot plot of land at 2055 Federal St. was granted a zoning variance last month to split the land into seven separate lots. The move makes way for seven homes with roof decks and parking accessed via a shared driveway, according to city records.

The location is fairly convenient, but listing the Barnes as a nearby monument might be a stretch.

As you can see from the following picture, a view from the north end on the lot down Annin Street shows a ton of new-construction homes, many with their own roof decks.

The project is down the block from the new location for Breezy’s Cafe and the OCF Coffeehouse and just around the corner from a proposed 50-home development. That section of town will be practically unrecognizable in five years, especially if the new Point Breeze CDC can jumpstart business along that avenue.

But what’s up with this structure across the street from 2055 Federal?

Wonder if the door is locked.
