First Pics: Townsend opens at 1623 E. Passyunk Ave.

Townsend, the eponymous “wine-driven” restaurant from chef Townsend Wentz, has opened at 1623 E. Passyunk Ave., the former location of Sophia’s, Salt & Pepper and one half of Rosalena’s.

They pulled out the old bar and Wentz built this new, smaller one that opened up the room.

After doing a preview the previous weekend, Wentz and general manager Lauren Harris began dinner service Thursday with the full opening menu (see below), a surprisingly affordable drink list (thankfully) and an airier feel to the bar area and two dining rooms.

The dining rooms hold about 50 guests, with another 14 or so in the bar area. Soon, they plan a sidewalk cafe and will eventually serve dinner in a small patio that they share with neighbor Capogiro.

    ohhhh, can’t wait.

looks like a good spot to linger at the bar and definitely a good spot for a more special-er dinner.

Oh look, another swanky Passyunk restaurant (Noord excepted) that gives vegetarians the cold shoulder. I’d like to propose a cookoff among all the neighborhood chefs to create a meat-free entree. Then add that to your actual menu.

@imagene: I propose you open your own vegi-restaurant. Or go to Vegan Comissary. Come to think of it, I’m going to start complaintng about THEIR lack of meat dishes!
Sorry to burst your bubble, but the vast majority of the population likes to eat meat.
