Parking in Queen Village, part of Pennsport just got a whole lot easier

So, you know how the Queen Village Neighborhood Association uses its stretch beneath I-95  at Front and Christian Streets to rent parking spaces to residents in order to help fund neighborhood initiatives?

Well, it turns out that they’ve expanded that lot to extend all the way down to Washington Avenue and are now accepting reservations for parking spots.

QVNA charges $100/month and promises that you’ll save time in looking for a space. Perhaps the biggest selling point: year round cover for your car. After this past winter, that’s an invaluable resource to have at your disposal.

Naked Philly explains how renting a space actually helps the surrounding area:

QVNA leases the land at low cost from the Interstate Land Management Corporation (ILMC), the quasi-government agency that oversees the 100-foot right-of-way on either side and underneath I-95. QVNA charges 95 people $95 a month to park there. In turn, they use the revenue generated to run their organization and to provide grants for the community through a competitive grant process.

One such grant was ultimately given to Nebinger Elementary School. It helped to play a part in the installation of a playground for the school that doubled as a storm water management case study — the first such project for the Philadelphia Water Department. According to an article from Plan Philly, the plan swapped a blacktop surface lot with a bioswale (basically, a landscaping stormwater filter), rain garden, porous pavement and an underground water basin. Oh yeah, it’s a killer playground as well.

So if you’re looking for a pretty simple solution to your parking woes and want to do a solid for your community, kill two birds with one stone and rent a spot from the QVNA lot under I-95. Be sure to contact QVNA at 215-339-0975 or info@qvna.org for more information.

Maybe that will mean a few less QV cars parking down in Pennsport. Great that space will be used for something now.
