Together at last: Coffee and pizza joint opens on Broad Street

Opheliya’s Coffee and Pizza opened earlier this month at 2124 S. Broad St., and as you can guess by the name, it’s not the typical pizza joint.

Owner Will Mamedoly opened the restaurant because he likes coffee and pizza, but most of all he wants to sell coffee and pizza at affordable prices. He buys the coffee from LaRoca by D & L Coffee , but he plans on branching out to bring in Costa Rica red bean from a friend’s plantation.

The dough is hand-tossed and the sauce is made from scratch. Mamedoly described the sauce as sweeter than other sauces. “I want to put the labor in it,” he said.

But why the combination of pizza and coffee? Mamedoly said he didn’t want to do something that was trendy, and coffee shops are trendy, he said. So, he decided to put a spin on a trend, and combine coffee with pizza.

“I initially wanted to do a coffee and cake spot,” he said. “But  the place had the equipment for making pizza.”

He also likes the neighborhood. “I like the fact that there’s the 30-year-old professional crowd,” he said. “It’s a community.”

Additionally, other menu items include cheesesteaks, wraps and burgers. Mamedoly also wants to sell hot tea eventually.

“I want it to be a good place with good food at decent prices,” he said.
