First Pics: AmeriThai opens at 1244 Snyder Ave.
AmeriThai, the corner takeout that took over a long-vacant space, has opened at 1244 Snyder Ave. and we happened to stop by yesterday when two local monks came in with gifts to welcome the new business. The monks, from the temple at 20th and Washington, also came in with a money tree to raise funds for the national temple located in Washington, D.C.
But we digress. Let’s get to the food.
AmeriThai owner Yui Soun, who was previously working for an Ardmore Thai place, is offering a mix of traditional dishes like pad thai and basil fried rice as well as a handful of American standards, like turkey sandwiches. All dishes are incredibly affordable.
The hours that they told us — a rather quirky 12:35 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily, except closed Sunday — differ from what it says on the menu, which says 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Saturday. You can always call them at 215-334-0400.
The place opened last weekend. Anyone out there have any early reviews?

Stopped in to place a takeout order on Monday night, a day or two after they quietly opened. Ordered the Black Bean Salmon and Beef Pad Thai to go, and walked back to my house for 15 minutes to wait. Came back and it seems the daughter (maybe 16-17 years old) had mistakenly given out order to the wrong take-out patrons. They were very apologetic and the young girl just seemed very flustered. The mom/chef said she could have two other dishes ready within 2-3 minutes free of charge but I decided to just stick with my order, head home and wait it out another 15.
Aside from the opening day/young daughter mix up, the food was pretty decent. Good portion sizes and really great price. The salmon was really good, and came with a black bean (but soy heavy glaze), fresh veggies, and rice. Some of the beef pad Thai was a bit fatty, but very flavorful and had awesome chunks of fried egg in it.
I’ll wait a few weeks and order again once they settle in a bit.

Just ordered dinner here tonight and this was even better than I was expecting! Great presentation, preparation, and price. Right around the corner from my house. We’ll definitely be going back.
Ok… If you guys look at that place and feel optimistic about it… Idunno what to say. Its just slop. The stupid grand opening decorations look like some frat house played a prank on the place… I hate when a place has cheap signage. But no signage? Thats even worse… Its only a matter of time before those decorations become litter…

You have made a lot of incorrect assumptions about me… This is yet another…
I wanted to be excited about this place as it’s right around the corner. Went in for takeout the other night, here’s my observations:
-The menu needs help. Some things sound good but there’s no need for them to have hot dogs and ham sandwiches, plenty of other places for that.
-Construction was still going on while I waited for my order. Power tools were on the counter inches away from where my food was being prepared. Furnature was being moved aroud. Eating in the dining room would not be pleasant during this.
-A few employees were bare foot when I went in. Some put on flip flops as they made my order, one continued to walk around bare foot.
-There were several other things that seemed unsanitary or off-putting, not going to bother listing everything.
-About two days after the “Grand Opening” the sign was hanging half off the building, deflated balloons and torn streamers sill hanging out front.
This stuff aside the food was reasonably priced and pretty good…I just tried not to think of what I had seen as I ate it. I’m gonna give them a good amount of time to settle before I’ll consider going back.
I ate here on Saturday and had a great meal (Massaman, green curry, and pad thai). Much better than Circles and a lot cheaper.
@Noah, good to hear. I’m done with Circles, their prices are utterly ridiculous.
Is this a joke? The food here is in no way comparable to that which is served at Circles, other than that they are both Thai. Not a good restaurant in any way, shape or form.
I hope they work out the kinks because this neighborhood needs more/better take-out options. I fear that they seek to be all-things to all people…why, for heaven’s sake, would a Thai restaurant offer ravioli and pasta curry? Or hot dogs? The pad thai was okay – (sauce flavorful, shrimp flavorless) – but the daughter needs some customer-service practice to gain confidence. Like many other reviewers, I will also wait a while to visit them again.
Yeah it is pretty funny… AnthonyG makes a stupid comment about me not knowing the difference between Thai food and tying my shoelace… And from the looks of the menu and recent comments, it looks like this “Thai restaurant” itself doesn’t know the difference between Thai food and… Ugh… Well they are all barefoot… So we’ll say they don’t know the difference between Thai food and what basic footwear looks like… LOL!!!
