Ice cream shop being proposed for 1928 E. Passyunk Ave

The Fairmount-based ice cream shop Philly Flavors is hoping to open its fourth location at 1928 E. Passyunk Ave., where the Blow Dry Boutique lasted only a few months.

Soon to be Philly Flavors?

The agenda for the East Passyunk Crossing Civic Association’s zoning committee meeting  on July 23 includes a reference to the shop, whose original location is on Fairmount Avenue near 20th Street. The local chain also has locations near Rittenhouse Square and on 13th Street in the Gayborhood.

Pick of 13th Street location comes from Messy and Picky.

The shop offers all sorts of frozen treats, including ice cream, water ice, frozen yogurt, ice cream cakes, sundaes, waffle sandwiches, floats, shakes and more. Check out the full menu here.

The shop needs a use variance for a takeout restaurant license. The meeting on July 23 is at Neumann-Goretti’s library on the second floor at 7 p.m. Stop by to show your support if you want this business here.

No little baby,a regular ice cream, water ice, popsicle place would be great. Not gelato, not lobster flavored ice cream…a place like this would be nice to have down here.

Yes! I love Philly Flavors! Will be nice to have something more affordable than Capogiro.

Is Capogiro considered less affordable? It seems to be priced at about $5 to $6 for a decent serving. The portions aren’t huge but they are a satisfying treat. Just curious about what is considered affordable or meets expectations given what one pays for it.

Capogiro is wonderful, but $24 might be a little much for a family of four to spend on a treat 🙂

I checked out the Philly Flavors on 13th. Paid $3.40 for a two-scoop sugar cone. Vanilla (a pretty good vanilla) and a flavor called Reese’s swirl that had chunks of peanut butter cups. It was way more ice cream than I needed and it was the “small.” Probably could have gotten by on the kid size with one scoop. So I can see the point that a place like this is more affordable. But I second what someone else said about the flavor selection. None of the flavors seemed all that special. Also, I couldn’t tell what kind of ice cream is was since the containers were all out of site in the freezers behind the counter. Does anyone know if they make their own ice cream or just retail some major ice cream supplier?

There is zero chance they make their own ice cream. It’s corn syrup and milk-like-products.

Thanks for the scoop 😉 How great that both a world-class gelateria AND a regular, affordable ice cream shop will be available on the Avenue!

There is nothing special about thus ice cream shop. I could get the same treats at the Sunoco on 10th and Washington. Bring on the lobster flavored ice cream which matches the avenues innovative food scene!

As a long-time neighborhood resident, I would welcome something on the Avenue that caters to “average joes”. I can’t afford the “innovative food scene”, and would dearly love to support local business and be able to stroll 2 blocks to enjoy a frozen treat that doesn’t come from a truck or a gas station! The trendy stuff is great, but real people gotta eat, too 🙂

Longtime residents need to take a hike, the city is changing and the old mind set has held back this area for waay too long. Take a walk to Sunoco.

        As a new-time resident, I fully endorse a regular-people good-quality local ice cream shop.

c’mon, your comment about long-time residents is rather ignorant. Long-time residents have built the neighborhoods in our city. Although I am fairly new to South Philly, I am a long time Philly resident as were my parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. So, this long-time resident (of Philly) and many others aren’t going anywhere so we need to learn to live together. Your attitude doesn’t help people (longtimers) to respect the newer non-Philly people coming into the neighborhoods.

That is a silly statement. Clearly you haven’t been on the Anvenue in a while. Stogie Joe’s is hardly “innovative food scene”. And what about Marra’s?!! How do skip that?
