Spotted: New Zagar mosaic is finished at Fitness Works gym

Artist Isaiah Zagar, whose mirrored, colorful mosaics have multiplied throughout South Philly over the past 30 years, has finished another massive project.

A big thank you to the helpful reader who sent us these pictures.

The mosaic wraps around the base of the Fitness Works gym on Reed Street between 7th and 8th.

Regular readers of the Passyunk Post will remember that we recently featured another Zagar project, the Watkins Street warehouse that was briefly the potential home for the South Philly Barbacoa food truck. That project never got off the ground — turns out they don’t need an actual building to do killer business — and we haven’t heard of a replacement.

So for now, we’ll just enjoy a new mosaic.

Very excited to see this mural enlivening the gray walls of Fitness works, but really hoping they’ll continue the work to western wall facing Franklin Street. This wall is a constant victim of graffiti and needs the mural just as much as the Beulah Street side!

We’re planning on it, should be scheduled in next couple of months. We’re so glad we’ve been able to work with Isaiah and his crew to pretty up our home.

Fitness Works, that is the best news EVER! Please share info with the community when the installation is happening so we can help!

        Huzzah!
        Great news, Fitness Works!

As a neighbor, I think this will make the spin class and the dead-lifters just a little bit more tolerable.

Fitness works! Why did you paint that awful ‘Noii Parking’ thing on the sidewalk? It makes me sad to have to walk by every time I leave my house

We had him personally do our small walls on the front of Mr. Martinos.

It’ll be even better when Fitness Works paints over that hand giving South Phila the finger.
