Oh-so-close Taney Dragons to get a parade down Broad Street

It may not have been the World Series parade most Philadelphians had hoped for, but it’s nice all the same.

The Taney Dragons, based out of the ball fields in Schuylkill Park and drawing players from a team at the Marian Anderson rec center at 17th and Fitzwater, will be honored tomorrow afternoon with a parade down Broad Street, a rally in FDR Park and a ceremony before the Phillies game.

Says the Inquirer:

The festivities will begin at 2 p.m. at 20th and Market streets, where the parade will start and head east to City Hall. The parade will proceed around the southwest corner of City Hall and continue south on Broad. … There will be two stops along Broad: The first in front of the Kimmel Center, where the Philly Pops will perform for the team, and then at Washington Avenue, where Mummers will perform.

The rally in FDR Park will be at the south-side ball fields near I-95. At 6:30, the team will head to Citizens Bank Park for a pregame ceremony, where all attendants will get a Taney T-shirt and a portion of ticket sales will go to benefit the Taney program.

They may not have won, but they did us proud anyway.

Of course, the Mummers’ new route won’t go nearly as far south…
