Announcing some exciting changes for Passyunk Post

big_news

To our beloved readers:

Passyunk Post Founder and Publisher Albert Stumm is thrilled to announce the addition of two talented new staffers to the team. Joining us are James Jennings, the new Editor of the website effective immediately, and Taylor Farnsworth, our new Social Media Manager.

You may recognize James Jennings‘ name as the civic-minded force who founded the Pennsporter blog. James has been writing as a paid contributor for the Post for almost a year, focusing on Pennsport, Whitman and Queen Village. He also is the editor of the Philly edition of Curbed, a development blog with nationwide reach. He will be overseeing most of the Post’s day-to-day activities.

Taylor Farnsworth came on board as an intern two months ago and has proven herself so thoroughly that we just had to hire her. A senior journalism major at Temple University, Taylor brings a breadth of experience from a litany of internships, including at the Allentown Morning Call, Bicycling magazine and City Paper. She will oversee the Post’s Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram accounts and will contribute stories.

Albert Stumm, who started Passyunk Post in summer 2012, will now serve as Publisher. He will continue to write stories for the site and will provide guidance, advice, story ideas and direction. He also will handle the Post’s advertising and business development. (As a side note, Albert also happens to be getting married on Saturday!)

To reach James with story ideas, comments or criticism, please email him at jim@passyunkpost.com. Albert can be reached at albert@passyunkpost.com, and you can check in with Taylor (@tfarnsworth3) by mentioning @PassyunkPost on Twitter.  The general tip line will still continue to be punk@passyunkpost.com.

The Passyunk Post is South Philadelphia’s premier source for what’s new in the neighborhood and what’s most important to the old and new residents of this booming section of the city. Since the website’s founding nearly two and a half years ago, the Post has attracted over 230,000 unique visitors, almost 2 million page views and more than two dozen advertisers.

Speaking of advertisers, you may have noticed the recent addition of some national companies’ ads in the story stream on the home page, like so:

native ad-1

This is our experiment with a revenue stream called native advertising, which is all the rage online these days. It is an ad provided by a third-party company that we deal with called Triple Lift. Advertisers pay them, and they plug in their ad on our site using some coding.  We’d be curious to know if a) you even noticed it and b) what you think about it since it is dressed up like the Post’s other content.

Feel free to let Albert know your thoughts by emailing him at albert@passyunkpost.com. He’d also be happy to hear from local business owners who are interested in expanding their reach to the thousands of educated, engaged South Philly residents who make the Post part of their routine.

Finally, from the entire Passyunk Post team, please let us extend a heartfelt thank you to all of you out there. We’d be nothing without the extensive network of readers, advertisers, contributors, tipsters, ambassadors, well-wishers and civic leaders who give this website life. It has truly been a privilege to take this journey, and we hope that this is only the beginning.

Thanks again,
Albert Stumm
