First Pics: Gold Standard on Fitz is now open

The Gold Standard Cafe on Fitz is now open at 2001 Fitzwater St. The cafe already had a location on Baltimore Ave. in West Philly, but owners Roger Harmon and Vince Whittacre made the decision to open up a second location in a new neighborhood.

Although by the same owners and under the same name, this Gold Standard location has a bit of a different selection than the West Philly spot.

Instead of the La Colombe coffee served at the Baltimore Ave. location, this cafe in the Graduate Hospital area has coffee from Green Street, which is roasted just down the street from the cafe. According to the location’s manager, Sarah Van Hoogenstyn, the owners wanted to make the spot as appealing to those in the neighborhood as possible. What better way to do that than by sourcing the coffee locally?

Another difference between the locations is the menu. At the new location, baked goods are from the Metropolitan Bakery. They also have a small selection of sandwiches, bagels, parfaits and more. Gold Standard on Fitz also carries a selection of quiche from their West Philly location.

This cafe has similar vibe to the West Philly location with a variety of colors on the walls and art work hanging throughout. Photography from Ashley McDowell Clark, an art student who works at the Baltimore Ave. location, also adds to the local character of the space.

Pumpkins are scattered throughout the location, giving it a festive touch.
