Renee Gilinger, Executive Director of the East Passyunk Business Improvement District, told us that the the first round of installations, which are permanent, is taking place over the next two weeks.

Once complete, there will be 35 new wispy light displays stretching from Broad St. down to Federal St. Funding for the lights came from a grant from Samuels and Son Seafoood through the CDC Tax Credit Program. Gilinger mentioned that the brackets are able to be fastened to both metal and wooden polls, which means that they can be installed around the Singing Fountain as well.

The new decorations will be at each intersection this year and Gilinger said that they’ll be doubling the number next year. In the meantime, expect some afternoon road blocks along the Avenue until the work is complete.
