Owner Jack Blumenthal tells us that they started moving into the new/old space yesterday. We’ve since found out that permits have been filed to for a “sit down restaurant” at the now-empty 743 S. 4th retail space, which currently sports a liquor license on its window.

You may recall that building at 748 S. 4th St. was the scene of a tragic fire back in April 2013 that claimed the life of Capt. Michael Goodwin of nearby Engine 53, Ladder 27 at 414 Snyder Ave. The building was badly damaged and was later demolished. Naked Philly reported in August that the new building would include four apartments above the ground floor retail space.

Blumenthal said that the new Jack B. Fabrics location is currently open and regular hours will be Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. They are closed on Sundays.

As for the space at 743 S. 4th St., a permit was recently filed for a “sit down restaurant on the first floor.” Blumenthal confirmed that they’re cleaning out the property, but it’s unclear what who or what will be taking over the space. A liquor license hung on the window is issued to WT Restaurant Holdings, LLC.

We’ll be sure to update you when more information becomes available.

FYI, the orange posting at 743 South 4th Street is not a liquor license, but merely notification that one has been applied for. QVNA has been working with the near neighbors and the prospective restaurant owners to determine how to best accommodate a licensed establishment at this location. The restaurant aims to be a European style cafe that will serve Ultimo coffee and food from breakfast to dinner. Stay tuned!
