Recycle your Christmas tree at these South Philly locations

Christmas is officially over, leaving many of you with remnants of the holiday in the form of Christmas trees.

To ensure that those holiday trees get properly recycled, events are occurring throughout South Philly to recycle your tree for a nominal fee.

The South Philly-based website Greenlimbs is hosting a treecycling event on Jan. 10. The event includes 5 locations in South Philly, all of which will provide wood chipping services. The mulch generated from the event will then be used for vacant lots and development in Point Breeze. The cost is $5 per tree and $2 per wreath.

Another tree recycling event occurring on Jan. 10 is at Columbus Square Park at 13th and Reed. For a cost of $5, your tree will be turned into wood chips that will then be used to benefit the community in public parks and gardens. The event runs from 10 a.m. through 4 p.m.

Can’t make either of those events? The Streets Department also has a tree-recycling program which includes 23 pickup locations throughout the city on both Jan. 10 and Jan. 17 from 9 a.m. through 3 p.m. Trees may also be dropped off at any of the Streets Department Sanitation Convenience Centers from Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. through 6 p.m. until Jan 17.  The list of Street Department pickup locations can be found here.

If you can’t bring your tree to any of the recycling-based drop-off events, you can still leave your tree curbside for regular trash pickup.
