2014’s Top Restaurant Stories

South Philly has been gaining steam for years as the go-to spot for dining in the city, but this year, the neighborhood’s establishments have gained even more attention on the restaurant scene. 2014 was a great year for restaurants, but 2015 is sure to bring some more great food our way.

Italiano’s Water Ice reopens

Italiano’s had taken the summer of 2013 off, leaving many South Philadelphians without their favorite water ice fix. In May they reopened, just in time to help beat the summer heat.

This year was a big one for Gennaro’s.  Thrillist named their pizza the best in the state, and they’re planning on opening up shop on E. Passyunk Ave. in the former location of Da Vinci Ristorante. in “mid-2015.” Here’s to another year of great pizza.

South Philly dominates “Top 50 Restaurants” list

On Zagat’s list of the 50 best restaurants in the city, Bibou, Fond, Noord, Serpico and quite a few others down south ranked among them. In fact, about 30 percent of the list is made up of South Philly establishments. Not too shabby, huh?
