Young Children’s Center for the Arts planning new location at 2nd and Watkins

Young Children’s Center for the Arts is planning a second location, to be called YCCAon2, in the former Norman’s Juvenile Furniture store at 1714-20 S. 2nd St.

The preschool and daycare facility, which currently has a location at 929 S. Water St. in the Old Swedes Church, purchased the building with plans to expand YCCA to allow more people in the community to enroll in the programs they offer.

According to the facility’s executive director, Alexis Birnbaum, this is a million dollar project since the building needs to be completely gutted and renovated. Although it’s a huge project, Birnbaum hopes to be able to open in September, as long as renovations are completed and the facility receives proper approval since they are a state-licensed facility.

Much of the reason for expanding is due to the high demand for preschool and daycare. Since the facility has a long wait-list, Birnbaum felt that opening a new, larger facility would help them serve more of the community.

Since they’ll be completely gutting the location, they will be able to tailor-design this building to their specific needs.

This new facility will offer the same programs the YCCA already offers, in addition to some new programming. You can expect music therapy groups, art and movement therapy and more from this facility.

There will be a spot in the front to drop off, and plenty of street parking around!
