First Pics: RACSO Fine Arts opens gallery at 1935 E. Passyunk Ave.

Last month we told you about RACSO Fine Arts, a new art gallery, which would be opening in the cool-looking, angular corner building at 1935 E. Passyunk Ave.

The art gallery is now open, showcasing artwork from Latin-American artists.

When choosing a location for this gallery, other locations in different parts of the city were considered, but the dynamic of East Passyunk Avenue ultimately sold RACSO’s principal, Oscar Villamil, to the space.

The cool shape of the building also allows the gallery to display more sculptures than they would in a traditionally-shaped location.

While the artworks throughout the gallery are all by Latin-American artists, one of the main attractions is the sculpture work done by East Passyunk-based artist, Miguel Antonio Horn. His artworks explore figure development through various mediums.

The sculpture photographed below is one sculpture of a three-piece series created in 2010.

Pictured below is a piece which was created with laminated pieces of cardboard. The hanging artwork looks different from every angle, as you can see in the photos of it.

Other pieces by Horn showcased in the gallery are done with bronze casting, woodwork, paintings completed with coffee and espresso, 3D printing and more.

In addition to the artworks by Horn, the gallery is also showcasing the works of Colombia-based photographer Gertjan Bartelsman and painter Orlando Agudelo-Botero.

In addition to opening in this location, RACSO will also be opening an exhibit at the Comcast Center through the Art at the Center program. The six month long exhibit will feature even more work from Latin-American artists, including some of those feature in the East Passyunk Avenue gallery.

In the near future, some of the artworks of Venezuelan artist, Henry Bermudez, will be featured both at the East Passyunk Avenue gallery and at the Art at the Center exhibit at Comcast.

The gallery will be rotating the works of other artists into the space every 10 weeks or so to keep the gallery fresh.

Gallery hours are from 3 p.m. through 9 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, 12 p.m through 9 p.m. on Saturdays and 12 p.m. through 6 p.m. on Sundays. You can visit the gallery on Monday and Tuesday by appointment. You can find more information on the artists featured at the gallery on RACSO’s website.
