Near-tragic accident increases concerns about crumbling 25th Street viaduct
Just after plans for the renovation of the 25th Street viaduct were announced two weeks ago, a near-tragic accident occurred because of the crumbling bridge.
Late last week, a large chunk of concrete from the CSX train bridge fell onto a BMW sedan near 25th and Dickinson.

Officials deemed the bridge “structurally sound” just a few weeks ago during the announcement of the renovations. NBC10 reports that a large chunk of concrete fell from the bridge near the intersection of 25th and Dickinson on Friday night in Point Breeze. It landed on the passenger side window of a BMW sedan. The driver narrowly escaped a tragic scene and was “shaken” but not injured.
The improvements planned for this bridge clearly cannot start soon enough with the increasing concern of safety for anyone traveling under the bridge.
The improvements on this bridge will happen in phases, and will ultimately take about three to five years to be completed entirely. The first phase, starting in June, will include a debris shield to catch falling concrete.
they need to stop using it until it has been fixed. I don’t care what the oil companies think. it’s dangerous to have trains going across that bridge if it’s crumbling underneath.
Yeah this bridge is terrible just the way it is situated… Obstructs views and causes car accidents on the regular.
