Every Wednesday from Memorial Day to Labor Day, East Passyunk Avenue will be hosting a new weekly event called the Passyunk Passeggiata starting on May 27.

“Passeggiata” comes from a term used in Italy for taking a walk around the neighborhood in evening hours to visit friends, restaurants and local shops.

The Passyunk Passeggiata will include a weekly farmer’s market at the Singing Fountain, live music, extended boutique hours, specials and happy hours from participating bars and restaurants and more.

The farmer’s market will open at 3 p.m. and close at 7 p.m. Also at the singing fountain, you can expect to see live music from different performers each week. The first week of the event will include a performance by The Jazz Horse from 5 p.m. through 8 p.m.

More than 20 shops on the avenue will also be participating with extended hours until 8 p.m. Shops include places like Amelie’s Bark Shop, Miss Demeanor, South Philly Comics, Urban Jungle and more. Some participating shops will also be offering a 5% discount during the May 27 event.

Restaurants participating in happy hour until 8 p.m. include Birra, Brigantessa, Cantina los Caballitos, Fond, Le Virtu, Lucky 13, Noir, Palladino’s, Paradiso, Stogie Joe’s and The Bottle Shop. Noord and Tre Scallini will also be offering seasonal menu specials for the event and Paradiso is even offering up some dog-friendly biscuits for anyone dining with their four-legged friends.

While you’re strolling around the avenue for this event, don’t forget to check out the new art reproductions around East Passyunk as part of the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Inside Out exhibit.
