“Language Labs” mural completed at 7th and Moore
The side of the warehouse at 7th and Moore just got a pretty bright makeover.
A new mural by Shira Walinksky, titled “Language Labs,” was recently completed at the location.
This Mural Arts Program piece was completed as part of the Southeast by Southeast project, which is a partnership with the Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual Disability Services. Through Southeast by Southeast, they aim to help new immigrants from Bhutan, Burma and Nepal adapt to lifestyle in Philadelphia, while still maintaining their native cultures.
This mural gives you the opportunity to learn thing or two about different languages. The mural has words in over 30 languages, depicted with images of what the word translates to.
Words depicted on this mural include things like “cloud” and “village.” Each bright-colored rectangle represents a different word and image that’s translated into numerous different languages.
So now while you’re standing around for the 47 bus, you’ll have the chance to learn a little bit of a new language.
Looks great! So much better than the graffiti-covered wall that was there before.
Good article but can you make little correction. Refugee from Nepal and Bhutan are same people. I would recommend refugee from Bhutan, not from Nepal.

Really? And the obnoxious tool from Jersey that would blast music while spray-painting it feet from people trying to take the 47 bus?
Respectfully disagree – this is a significant improvement and more community-centric than graffiti (that frankly was neither unique or that great).
