Indian cafe set to open at 1532 Snyder Ave.
On the line-up of food vendors for South Philly Sausage Fest, the new festival on West Passyunk Avenue, you might have noticed the name of a new, yet-to-open restaurant.
This restaurant, an Indian cafe called Chaat and Chai, is set to open soon at 1532 Snyder Ave.
Chaat and Chai will be serving up food that is Indian street fare, but with a modern twist. In case you’re wondering, chaat is a savory and popular road-side dish in India, and chai is an Indian tea.
They’re finishing up some final touches on the restaurant and are hoping to be open just a few weeks from now in mid-August.

Indian food is definitely lacking in South Philly! I just wish they had a better location. Broad & Snyder, not my cup of Chai. Should’ve looked into some of the still empty places on E. Passyunk.
Yeah ever since those “improvements” were made to the intersection with the jersey jug handle travesty, its been the most avoidable area of Passyunk.
Hasn’t caused me any issues. Sounds like a personal problem.

As someone who lives (with the common folk) below Snyder, I’m thrilled that we are getting cool businesses outside of E. Passyunk. I hope they keep trickling down towards my home.
@Jillian: the “common folk” also live around E. Passyunk, as in been there long before it became trendy.
The only way your methadone clinics get replaced.with decent business’s is if E. Passyunk has no more available space.
West Passyunk, an extension of East Passyunk, and in the Newbold neighborhood is experiencing wonderful economic growth including a variety of ethnic cuisine and within easy walking distance of East Passyunk, a healthy walking distance to Center City, 2 blocks to Broad & Snyder, hub of transportation for the Broad Street subway, Septa busses, busses to the seashore, other bus lines, etc. it’s all good news for this area of South Philly which has been self-sustaining for decades and due some positive patronage and innovation.
I DO like how broad and snyder is this great nexus. if only we could keep it cleaner.Wish it had a mini bus depot too.
Glad to hear it. Hopefully Newbold will (or I believe already has) organize a Newbold City District to help cleanup Snyder Ave. In the meantime, they have done great things in Newbold including the trees and gardens throughout the neighborhood including the one across from this new Chaat and Chai cafe where West Passyunk and 16th & Snyder intersect.
