While you won’t be able to check out the spot just yet, you can expect to see a fun menu of Indian street foods with a modern twist.

The decorations include parasols lining the ceiling, mirrors, huge pops of color and more. One of the most eye catching parts of this new spot are the paintings done by local artists. There are a total of four in the location. Artists include Lauren Doyle, Hannah Taylor, Eric Abaka and Gina Rubinetti

Originally Thomas considered locations on East Passyunk Avenue for this restaurant, but decided instead on West Passyunk after she fell in love with the potential of this space. While it’s not a huge restaurant space, there will be room for about 20 people, in addition to take-out service.

The menu will consist of small plate options to keep things affordable and shareable. As you can guess from the name of the spot, chaat, a savory road-side dish in India, will be served here. You can also expect to see different tea options on the menu (specifically chai), in addition to coffee from Backyard Beans.

chaat-and-chai-7 Chaat and Chai is planning to be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Tuesday through Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for brunch on Sunday. They don’t have an exact opening date just yet, but you can expect to see them open sometime early in September.

Don’t forget that you’ll also have a chance to check out Chaat and Chai at the upcoming South Philly Sausage Fest.

They won’t be offering delivery, at least not right away. They are considering using other services in the city that provide delivery services, though.
