My wife and I went to Stargazy for lunch on Sunday. The pies and mash potatoes are excellent. It’s a cool little space and the owner/cook is great. We will be back!

Always love checking out new restaurants, but does anyone else feel that there are continually far too many restaurants versus population growth and renewal of the East Passyunk area? Philly has experienced only modest growth. What’s happened with me personally is that I just end up going to certain places less because there are always more options.

I completely agree. I keep worrying that we’re going to have too many restaurants for the population to support, even when they’re well-run and high quality. That said, so many of them are not from first-timers that you have to wonder whether these seasoned pros just know something about their market that we don’t.

Well, how many is too many? These places are all replacing other establishments that did not work out for one reason or another (eg James/Mildred, the cupcake place, some long defunct lounge, empty storefronts ). Those that survive will certainly take business from existing places but only if they’re consistently better. The end result is good news for those that eat out.

Nothing has ever seemed to survive in the space where the Mildred was. That said, the Mildred, and James before it, had some fatal flaws. Let’s hope this one works out.

I feel like the restaurants are too concentrated. Maybe they should start opening new restaurants further south towards Oregon Ave. They need new establishments there to bring in or at least keep the young adult population around.
