Birra is expanding to the second floor of 1700 E. Passyunk Ave.

Last week you might have noticed that Birra, the pizza and beer spot at 1700 E. Passyunk Ave., was closed for a few days due to construction work.

birra

The reason for that construction is because Birra is in the process of expanding to include more seating on the second floor.

Previously 1700 E. Passyunk Ave. included apartments upstairs, but those have since been vacated to accommodate for an expansion.

We don’t have a ton of info on what all will be upstairs, other than the fact that it will include more seating and can be used for private parties. We will be sure to update you as soon as we learn more about what all this expanded space will include, and when you’ll be able to check it out.

Is it just me, or does Birra smell *really* badly of trash? I don’t know if it’s that corner or what, but it smells legit awful there all the time. I went in when they first opened but haven’t been back since just because I gag everytime I walk past.

I think it’s their exhaust fan on the Morris Street side. It smells funky when I walk by it. It doesn’t smell inside or on the Passyunk Avenue side though.

Yeah, it smells bad for sure. Both from trash and the crew of people chain-smoking on that corner. Not sure if they’re staff or what, but it’s pretty gross.

I walk past the Passyunk side everyday, and haven’t noticed anything. But Marra’s, that place puts out an odor that should have the health department asking questions.
