Center City residents’ vehicles could be crowding South Philly’s residential permit parking for the papal visit
Turns out the parking concerns of South Philadelphians for the papal visit are very real.
As the pope’s visit approaches, new details are being released on the parking situation in the city. Residents with permit parking in the zones of Center City that will be blocked off for the visit will be moving to other residential permit spots in the city, which could mean a lot more vehicles coming down to South Philly, especially near the subway stops.

The new option allows the owners of vehicles with residential parking permits to park in other any other permit parking district in the city for a limited time.
That means if your car has a current, valid parking permit, you don’t have to put your car in a garage for 3 days, if you can find a spot.
Under the new rule, residents of the following Residential Permit Parking Districts will be allowed to park on any block in any posted Residential Permit Parking district from Sunday, September 20, 2015 until 8:00 am on Tuesday, September 29, 2015:
Permit parking districts 1, 4, 5 and 10 are the zones being displaced during the weekend of September 25 for the papal visit. You can find out more about the parking changes here.

I’m not moving my car from Tuesday night on. I’m interested to find out when they are going to move forward with closing schools the Monday after Popeapalooza. There’s no way the city will be ready to move at 7am on Monday.
lol… having a Center City zone parking permit will make easy to ID which cars get dog sh!t shoved up under the door handles, or will need a visit to Pep-Boys tire center….
If you think S. Phila. is that bad then pay to put your car in a lot and stay out. we pay to park like you and do not like the idea of not finding a spot when we come home from work.
Why would you do something mean like that? These residents don’t have a choice to move their cars. They city is mandating it. It would be nice if the city opened up the stadium lots so people could park there and not have to worry that people like you would damage their cars.
When I read that people in those districts would have to move their cars or get towed my immediate thought was, “Gee, nice way for the parking authority to fill their coffers.” I’m still not sure why the cars have to be moved off the streets.
Hopefully, if they’re parking in South Phila their cars won’t be damaged. Isn’t the city making the lots at the stadiums available for free parking for residents?
Let them park in Wells Fargo, Citizen’s Bank, The Linc, FDR, friggin Marconi. I have work all weekend and would like to come home to at least a chance of having a spot when I pay for residential parking every year. Thanksssss.
