Babe Heffron memorial statue unveiled in Pennsport

Edward “Babe” Heffron, a local World War II veteran and member of the Easy Company portrayed on HBO’s “Band of Brothers,” now has a statue in his home neighborhood of Pennsport.

On Thursday, September 17, this tribute to a local hero was unveiled at 2nd and Reed Streets at Herron Playground.

Heffron passed away in 2013, but the memory of him will live on thanks to this statue by Terry Jones, who is known for his historical sculptures and memorials. The 5′ 7″ bronze statue was unveiled during a celebration with a dedication ceremony in Pennsport, with some entertainment from a USO show troupe, mummers and more.

Celebrating the legacy of Babe Heffron last night, the importance of freedom, and what it means to fight for it. I want to thank all the wonderful people who made this happen. Proud to be from 2nd street.
