First Pics: Formerly abandoned Pier 68 transformed into new park space

The formerly abandoned pier off of the Walmart parking lot on Columbus Boulevard has been transformed.

Pier 68 park was unveiled last week as one of the improvements to the Delaware River waterfront.

This pier was once used as a shipping pier for imports of sugar, but in recent years has sat as an abandoned space. Now the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation has transformed the pier as a new community space meant to act as the southern gateway for the Delaware River trail.

The park space includes picnic tables and seating to enjoy some time hanging out along the waterfront. Pier 68 will also act as a new fishing spot for catch and release fishing.

Improvements to this space include more greenery, seating, new finishings, an observation area, a nicer entrance to the space and more. This new park, designed by Studio Bryan Hanes, was completed for $1.8 million.
