14 South Philly bars make “Best Bars in Philadelphia” list
It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that South Philly spots are continuing to rank among the best restaurants and bars in the city.
Philadelphia Magazine‘s list of “50 Best Bars in Philadelphia” includes 14 spots from South Street and below. So what spots should be on your new list of bar destinations?
South Philly made the top ranking with American Sardine Bar, along with some other notable spots on the list including the revamped Triangle Tavern, Townsend, P.O.P.E., Devil’s Den and more.

I really don’t get the consistently high ranking of American Sardine Bar. Do the owners of the place have some connection to Philadelphia Magazine? The food is pretty average and beer selection is OK but not particularly large or interesting.
Great list, tho i do have a soft spot for Watkins. Not surprised Stateside isn’t on the list – place has become a shell of its former self in terms of quality and consistency.
Agree with Watkins !!!
Watkins is a perfectly fine bar but the owner is a total douche. While he’s behind the bar, Watkins will never make a list of great bars.
