Split of Route 23 bus line to become effective Nov. 29
Back in June, SEPTA decided to officially call for the splitting of the heavily-trafficked Route 23 bus line.
That change will become effective at the end of the month. So how does this split affect commuters who use this bus line?
The Route 23 bus is essentially non-existent in South Philly now. Instead, the new Route 45 bus will service the area as far south as Broad and Oregon and will stop at the northernmost point at 11th and Noble in the Callowhill section of the city.
Previously, this bus route traveled from Chestnut Hill to Broad and Oregon. The Route 23 bus will still service the northernmost parts of the line, and will travel to 12th and Walnut in Center City.
Since the 23 line was previously expansive, some may find the need to transfer to a different bus to reach their destination. If you need to transfer between Route 23 and Route 45, simply ask the bus driver for an “Emergency Route 23 Transfer.”

I hope this helps with major delays for buses moving toward South Philly during rush hour. It sucks when you wait 25 mins for the bus only to see three of them moving down the road in a row….
Finally after taking this like for decades! Has always been horrible coming home after work!
It’s not horrible for those of us who take the 23 into North Philadelphia every day. But there aren’t very many of us so I can’t get too upset.
