School Talk: Learn about Southwark teachers while helping out with supplies
Editor’s Note: School Talk is an occasional feature that will look at education and parenting issues in South Philly. If you have concerns, ideas, suggested topics or other thoughts about the state of schools and ways to keep improving them, email us at punk@passyunkpost.com.
Weighing in this time are Rachel Moyer and Mary Falso.
Looking to help a South Philadelphia neighborhood elementary school?
Southwark Elementary, at 9th and Mifflin streets, is in dire need of school supplies, like all Philly public schools. EPX Civic – Friends of Southwark is hosting an online supply drive for the school this November and you can help too.
The drive, #SuppliesForSouthwark #20DaysOfThankful, which launched on November 1 and ends on Thanksgiving Day, features an online wishlist of items specifically requested by Southwark teachers for their classrooms and projects. Once ordered, items will be shipped directly to the school.
What is especially unique about this effort is that EPX Civic – FOS profiles a different teacher, grade, or initiative at Southwark each day on its Facebook page to give the community a glimpse of the amazing work happening at the school this year.
Check out (and like) the group’s Facebook page to meet the dynamic and dedicated Southwark staff, learn about all they are doing for their students and then show your thanks by ordering much needed supplies.
The Amazon wishlist can also be accessed here and donations of pencils, crayons, and paper can also be dropped off directly at the school.
‘Tis the season to show your thanks!
hi – FYI, I tried typing in that bit.ly URL directly (a couple of times) and was getting errors.
(was reading post in Feedly, the hyperlinks weren’t available without clicking through to post)
bit.ly URLs are case sensitive — did you use the capital S’s?
If the bit.ly still isn’t working, go directly to Amazon and, under the Wish List menu, select Find a Wish List or Registry, and search for Southwark.
