Interior Concepts is closing at 1701 E. Passyunk Ave.

UPDATE: It looks like the building has been sold for about $2.3 million.

___

The large corner building housing Interior Concepts could soon be empty.

According to signs posted in the windows at 1701 E. Passyunk Ave., they’re going out of business.

Previously the building had been listed on the market for $2.9 million, with the real estate listing suggesting the demolition of the current structure to make way for a taller mixed-use building. But the listing was then removed without a sale, possibly because the asking price was a bit steep. Earlier this year, the three building package next to Interior Concepts sold for $765,000.

We’ll update you as soon as we know more.

What would you like to see happen to this building at 12th and Passyunk?

It would be a good location for a neighborhood food co-op.

What’s wrong with brewpubs? There’s hardly any in Philly.

Between the vape stores nearby and the sneaker store apparently we’re going for South Street Junior

IC added a needed diversity from the food drink and clothing growing on pyunk currently imo, though realistically I never went there, nor anyone I know. Sad.

IC didn’t provide anything. It was a left-over from 1985. Unless you wanted a purple mirrored doberman.

Wegmans won’t fit, but a Trader Joes would.

Trader Joe’s wouldn’t buy without an adjoining parking lot

Is this parking lot necessity part of Trader Joe’s corporate bylaws or something? I’m sure there are plenty of people in the area who would walk there.

The South Philly co-op makes a lot of sense…but for nearly $3 million? Eek.

I prefer another classy bar or restaurant (the brewery idea is good too) to make that intersection even more prime.

Also…I’m not sure how I feel about it, but a large sports bar would make a killing there.

If you have any information about a realtor or buyer for this building, could you please let me know? I live right next to it (shared wall) and I expect I will need to talk to any buyer about any demolition that would happen. Thank you!

A shared wall does not provide you with any title rights to the building. You can ASK to speak with someone….

I didn’t say I owned the wall. I said I would like to know what kind of demo would be happening since we SHARE the wall – especially when the wall is already in bad shape and the current owner didn’t want to do anything to fix it.

While I am all for a brewery or a grocery store, I propose another, more practical idea, how about a school? With all of the parents with kids in the EPX area, having a new facility with state of the art equipment to serve as an elementary school would be most welcome and might even keep the tax base from moving to the ‘burbs!

There are already two great Elementary schools in the neighborhood, Jackson and Southwark! There are fantastic things happening at these schools, and I would encourage you to contact Friends of Jackson and Friends of Southwark to learn more.

umm…. yeah, a school on the main commercial strip. Makes complete sense. Who needs property taxes…..

That intersection is crazy enough as it is. Imagine what it would be like during drop-off/pick-up time.

Did you imagine it? Do you still think a school would be a good fit?

I can think of roughly 3 million reasons why this won’t happen.

…which doesn’t save money. The owner they would be leasing from would have paid $3 million and would charge rent based on that price.

The correct realistic answer is a multi-use lowrise with retail of some sort on the first floor and residential above, similar to what’s happening at former King of Jeans site.

Realism is no fun. We want a multi-story Wegman’s with parking above and a Trader Joe’s in the elevator.
