The once dated corner property is now home to an affordable neo-bistro by the name of Buckminster’s. This new restaurant from the owners of Cafe Lift, Kensington Quarters and Bufad opened on November 15.

Owner Michael Pasquarello thought of Buckminster Fuller, the 1950’s architect, as he was searching for light fixtures for this new restaurant. At the time, the restaurant had no concept or name. The idea of Fuller then helped shape the vision for the restaurant based on his values of sustainability, form and function. While the restaurant isn’t a full-on homage to Fuller, Pasquarello says, it is inspired by him in various ways.

The geometric shapes throughout are an obvious point of inspiration, as is the restaurant’s intention to stay affordable and accessible to the surrounding community. Pasquarello described the atmosphere as “romantically casual.” It’s a spot where you can stop in for a quick drink, or a full meal. The restaurant can currently seat 36 people. Buckminster’s also hopes to add outdoor seating for at least 20 more people.

There’s also a selection of 6-10 other bottled wine options that will change seasonally. 6 drinks are on the cocktail menu that range from $5.50 to $9. The food menu includes a selection of items that will rotate seasonally depending on what ingredients can be sourced locally. Food options range from $2 to $21. Chef Rob Marzinsky, formerly the chef of Fitler Dining Room, draws his inspiration from various places for a diverse selection of food here. On the current menu there are 16 savory dishes and 4 desert options. Right now Buckminster’s only serves dinner, but they hope to eventually expand to include a brunch menu.
