Spotted: How does a giant pile of sand end up on the sidewalk?

Piles of dirt for construction work is a fairly normal sight, but how about piles of sand?

Photo sent to us by a neighborhood tipster.

A neighbor on the 1400 block of Dickinson Street sent us this photo, saying these piles have been here for about a week now.

While the piles may be an eyesore, they’re also blocking the rain runoff to the nearby sewer.

So how exactly did these piles end up here? Any ideas?

No word on how much of the pile remains after yesterday’s rain storm.

It’s for sewer / water main work. No big deal.

The sand was covering sewer drainage vents. The sidewalk is now buckling…how is that not a big deal? Oh…right… terrible public education system…

If that’s where I think it is, there aren’t any blocked vents. If the sidewalk is buckling from that sand, the problem is an incredibly weak sidewalk and an underground void.

Dip sh!t, the sidewalk is buckling because of the broken sewer line, that the sand is there to fix.

Fabric row is getting new street lighting – over the past two weeks the construction team has been digging a trench to place the power lines for the new street lights. The sand is to fill in the trenches after the lines have been placed.

Sorry, meant to say that 4th Street has these same piles because fabric row is getting new lighting. Perhaps the same thing occurring in this case.
